OUR MISSION

Learn about our organizational objectives

As the world’s fourth most populous country, third largest democracy, and 16th largest economy, Indonesia is a strategic yet underutilized trade partner for the United States. Its expanding middle class offers a growing market for U.S. agricultural products, machinery, and technology, while its economic and geographic position makes it a critical partner in strengthening Indo-Pacific stability. Despite this potential, Indonesia accounts for only 0.48% of total U.S. exports and 0.93% of total U.S. imports.

Expanding trade would enhance U.S. economic competitiveness while supporting Indonesia’s emergence as a hub for manufacturing and technology in Southeast Asia. With strong macroeconomic fundamentals, abundant natural resources, and a young workforce, Indonesia is actively seeking to attract global companies looking to diversify supply chains.

In mid-2024, the U.S. invited Indonesia to join the Mineral Security Partnership (MSP), which aims to accelerate the development of a diverse and sustainable supply of critical energy minerals. Indonesia welcomes this invitation, and has already begun reducing China’s role in its nickel smelting projects.
